Do foetuses communicate? Foetal responses to interactive versus non-interactive maternal voice and touch: An exploratory analysis

چکیده

The main aim of this study was to uncover any evidence for communicative engagement in foetuses. Taking into consideration the continuity development pre- and postnatally, social responsiveness newborn baby sensorimotor competence foetus, it is plausible assume that readiness develops before birth. During interactive noninteractive applications three conditions: mother’s voice, touch her abdomen a control condition, foetuses’ (N = 12, 2–33 gestational weeks) behaviours were recorded through 4D scanning using Voluson S10 ultrasound coded frame-by-frame. Foetuses displayed differential right-hand self-touch response touch. There reduction movement when mother touching abdomen, compared talking or during baseline conditions. also responses condition but not talk condition. A similar result found with regards face responses. longer duration mouth opening first 60 s, foetuses showed significant increase sucking all other This compare versus foetus. findings suggest third trimester discriminate between non-interactive external stimuli respond contingent interactions.

Fetal Behavioural Responses to Maternal Voice and Touch

BACKGROUND Although there is data on the spontaneous behavioural repertoire of the fetus, studies on their behavioural responses to external stimulation are scarce. AIM, METHODS The aim of the current study was to measure fetal behavioural responses in reaction to maternal voice; to maternal touch of the abdomen compared to a control condition, utilizing 3D real-time (4D) sonography. Behaviou...

Learning to Communicate – Cooperation and Interactive Systems

Language and interaction have been crucial for the development of human intelligence. Also in the development of technology for complex interactive systems, understanding of human communication is necessary for furnishing the systems with intelligent interaction and learning capabilities: intelligent communication requires an ability to learn from interactions and to build internal knowledge ab...

Using Interactive Evolution for Exploratory Data Analysis

Multivariate data are difficult to explore. The most popular linear projection techniques mapping data to 2dimensional space often fail to reveal the patterns of interest. Non-linear mapping techniques are both slow and inefficient. In this paper, we propose a heuristic that allows users to adjust the parameters of mapping techniques just by stating their preferences iteratively. The preliminar...

Exploratory Analysis of Benchmark Experiments – An Interactive Approach

The analysis of benchmark experiments consists in a large part of exploratory methods, especially visualizations. In Eugster et al. [2008] we presented a comprehensive toolbox including the bench plot. This plot visualizes the behavior of the algorithms on the individual drawn learning and test samples according to specific performance measures. In this paper we show an interactive version of t...

Exploratory Data Analysis with Interactive Evolution

We illustrate with two simple examples how Interactive Evolutionary Computation (IEC) can be applied to Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA). IEC is particularly valuable in an EDA context because the objective function is by definition either unknown a priori or difficult to formalize. The first example involves what is probably the simplest possible transformation of data: linear projections. Whil...
